De Noetselerberg campsite: home comforts at the campsite
The De Noetselerberg campsite in Nijverdal, the Netherlands, is a 5 star campsite managed by the Hoekjen family. In 2021, it once again featured on the ANWB's (Royal Association of Tourism) list of the best Dutch campsites, and rightly so.
To retain its ANWB status as best campsite, it's important that the campsite guests are satisfied with their stay and that they feel at home. Geert Hoekjen, the campsite's owner, is well aware of this. Hence his decision to renovate one of his toilet blocks. He wanted to offer users the comforts that they are accustomed to at home.

DELABIE: innovative products
The campsite has 3 toilet blocks in total. "In the oldest toilet block, the installations were dilapidated and had to be replaced", explains Geert Hoekjen. He was inspired to carry out this refurbishment by a campsite in Austria where he had seen push-button operated showers. If it avoids having to re-do it, you might as well do it right the first time.
Having discovered DELABIE products and solutions that he considered innovative in terms of public washrooms, Geert Hoekjen opted to install them in his toilet block.
Hygienic and vandal-resistant products
Guests at the campsite primarily seek a comfortable and pleasant stay. Good hygiene contributes significantly to their comfort and well-being. In this toilet block, the showers, toilets and washbasins were fitted with electronic or time flow controls. Thanks to their infrared sensors, the electronic taps have the advantage of not needing to be touched. In conjunction with the periodic anti-bacterial duty flush, these contactless taps contribute optimum hygiene. Time flow taps, on the other hand, only need to be touched once, before hand washing, as they then close automatically. In addition, the timed flow and the pre-set flow rate reduce water consumption and optimise the water bill.
The WC direct flush system also makes an important contribution to hygiene: “One of the advantages of the direct flush system is that there is no cistern. This allows for a powerful flush. It's more hygienic and it reduces the risk of water stagnation and blockages”, explains Geert Hoekjen. This is because the WC direct flush system operates without a cistern, which means there is no stagnant water and bacterial proliferation is, therefore, limited. In addition, the user doesn't need to wait for the cistern to flush the toilet again. "And maintenance is made easier thanks to the scale-resistant mechanism", adds Geert Hoekjen.
The WC direct flush system is also an ideal solution for campsites, as the toilet blocks are used intensively and are often misused by users. This is why the sanitary ware must be able to withstand impacts. Geert Hoekjen points out that the push-button is very robust, which considerably reduces the risk of damage to the flush mechanism. Finally, DELABIE's controls, reduce the possibility of voluntary or involuntary vandalism thanks to their sleek lines and the very resistant materials used.
Optimum comfort
For Geert Hoekjen, user comfort is very important: “We want to offer our guests optimum comfort, just like at home”. He wanted his toilet block to reflect the luxury of a domestic bathroom, because it is becoming increasingly more important for his guests. For example, depending on the season and the weather, users like to control the temperature themselves. This is why Geert Hoekjen chose DELABIE's SECURITHERM shower kits. These showers, equipped with thermostatic mixers, allow users to regulate the temperature themselves.
Safety - always a priority
Safety was also a priority for Geert Hoekjen. The selected SECURITHERM shower kits offer, first and foremost, anti-scalding safety and also prevent cold showers. According to Geert Hoekjen, preventing Legionella is another very important safety element. Every 24 hours after the last use, an automatic anti-stagnation duty flush occurs. During periods of low occupancy at the campsite, the taps are used less often or not at all, which increases the risk of stagnation and bacterial development in the water system. Thanks to the periodic duty flush, the system is therefore flushed regularly, and user safety is guaranteed.
Easy to maintain and water savings
Geert Hoekjen also appreciates the easy maintenance. When it comes to toilets, he chose direct flush valves, but not just for reasons of hygiene and vandal-resistance. Indeed, the direct flush system also saves water and simplifies maintaining the installation. As there is no cistern, the risk of leaks is minimal. This means that there is no wasted water and maintenance is minimal. Another advantage is that by installing the controls through the wall, the installer has easy access to everything in the service duct, so maintenance can be undertaken without disturbing the users. Geert Hoekjen adds that damaged plastic push-buttons are also a thing of the past and no longer need to be repaired or replaced, thanks to the vandal-resistant chrome-plated push-button.
